Comedy isn't just about telling jokes and acting funny - using comedy as a tool to allow children and young people to discuss issues impacting their lives and exploring their own sense of self through humour can have a positive impact on future actions.
At the heart of our comedy workshops we put into practice how to connect positively with others, build and encourage individual expression and thought and allow the individual to explore their own ideas and comedy creations prompting natural speaking.
Laughter is a great tool in building trust and relationships and allowing participants to open up, discuss topics and express themselves. Children and young people laugh on average of 200 times a day. Square Peg use laughter to relate participants to the topic of the workshop, allowing them to explore topics and discover through comedy.
Participants will take part in themed comedy and laughter sessions exploring a topic chosen by the school/centre through a range of comedy improvisation techniques, characterisation, comedy writing/devising and stand-up. The process will see participants discuss, devise, direct and perform a sketch show based on the topic.
Our workshops can be run as an 8-week course or a week's intensive course with a comedy performance at the end or a half-day or full day workshop.

THE FANTASTIC FITNESS FACTOR - A comedy sketch show written and devised by the participants based on healthy living and the effects of sustaining a healthy diet and lifestyle.
ENVIRONMENTAL - A sketch show written and devised by the participants taking a look at the effects on the environment in the future and what we can do now to prevent it.
BULLYING - A powerful workshop based on the many faces of bullying. The core of this workshop is about breaking down barriers, reflecting on personal behaviour and building relationships.

Square Peg also provides comedy workshops in youth centres providing ongoing comedy classes ending in a comedy cabaret show.
